Why This Program Exists

Physicians earn exceptional income but often lack the institutional capital knowledge that determines whether they build lasting wealth or watch it erode through poor allocation decisions, commissioned product sales, and sponsor-marketed syndications.

The Physician Finance Residency provides what no MBA, CFP certification, or wealth advisor can deliver: direct exposure to live fund operations, institutional decision-making, and allocator frameworks. You will observe real property acquisitions, hedge fund strategy sessions, investor relations processes, and due diligence procedures: not sanitized case studies, but actual operations at affiliated institutional platforms.

This program serves physicians at every career stage, from residents completing training to senior attendings considering transitions. Whether you're exploring finance careers, evaluating fund launch viability, seeking enhanced allocation sophistication, or simply wanting to understand how institutional capital actually works, this program builds understanding that clinical training never provides.

Six Educational
Outcomes

Career Path Clarity

Explore finance careers without burning bridges. Physicians use this program to test PE/VC interest, evaluate hedge fund roles, or assess allocator advisory paths, all while maintaining clinical income and optionality.

  • Structured study of what finance roles involve before committing to transitions
  • A realistic map of what finance work involves day to day
  • Realistic assessment of income trade-offs and lifestyle changes

Capital Allocation Mastery

Develop institutional-grade frameworks for evaluating real estate syndications, private equity funds, hedge fund strategies, and alternative investments pitched by colleagues and wealth advisors.

  • Due diligence templates used by family offices and endowments
  • Red flag identification in sponsor marketing materials
  • Fee structure analysis revealing hidden costs and misalignment

Fund Launch Readiness

Physicians considering launching real estate funds or joining GP teams gain a realistic understanding of fund economics, regulatory requirements, and operational complexity before committing capital and reputation.

  • Observation of actual fund operations and investor relations
  • Realistic assessment of time commitment and capital requirements
  • An honest framework for deciding whether to attempt a launch at all

A Peer Community

Study alongside other physicians engaged in the same material, and remain connected after the program concludes.

  • A cohort of physicians committed to serious financial study
  • Continued engagement with program material after completion

Investment Sophistication

Move beyond basic "invest in index funds" advice to understand how sophisticated allocators construct portfolios, manage risk, think about taxes, and deploy capital across public markets, private equity, real estate, and hedge funds.

  • Institutional portfolio construction frameworks
  • How professionals think about alternative allocation sizing
  • Tax optimization strategies for high-income professionals

Intellectual Fulfillment

Physicians report that studying capital markets, deal analysis, and investment strategy provides intellectual stimulation often missing from clinical practice, particularly valuable for those experiencing burnout or seeking broader engagement.

  • Engagement with macro strategy and market dynamics
  • Analytical challenge beyond clinical algorithms
  • Broader perspective on wealth creation and capital deployment

What You'll
Actually Do

Live Fund Operations Exposure

Observe hedge fund strategy sessions, property acquisitions, and investor relations processes at affiliated institutional platforms. This is not theoretical education. It is proximity to real decision-making with actual capital at stake.

Sample Experiences

  • Quarterly portfolio review: watch fund managers analyze positions, discuss risk management, and evaluate strategy adjustments in response to market conditions
  • Property underwriting: observe a team evaluate an acquisition opportunity, including market analysis, financing structure, return projections, and risk assessment
  • Investor relations cycle: see how institutional funds communicate with LPs during volatility, manage redemption requests, and report performance
  • Due diligence observation: watch an allocator conduct operational due diligence on a fund manager, including reference calls, document review, and red flag identification

Institutional Knowledge Transfer

Study operating documents, investment memos, term sheets, and analytical frameworks that institutional investors use but physicians never see. Learn how professionals actually evaluate opportunities versus how sponsors market them.

Materials & Templates Provided

  • Limited Partnership agreements from actual funds (anonymized): fee structures, distribution waterfalls, GP rights, redemption provisions
  • Operational due diligence checklist: 50+ questions institutional allocators use to evaluate fund managers
  • Property underwriting model: an Excel template showing how an institutional platform analyzes real estate acquisitions, including financing, NOI projections, and sensitivity analysis
  • Portfolio construction frameworks for high-income professionals with compressed accumulation timelines

European Market Perspective

Gain exposure to European capital markets, family office allocation practices, and cross-border investment structures. This international perspective distinguishes the program from U.S.-only physician finance education.

Global Curriculum Elements

  • European vs. U.S. fund structures, regulatory differences, and tax considerations
  • Swiss and European family office allocation frameworks and decision criteria
  • Optional in-person component: a one-week intensive in Zurich or Stockholm ($15,000 additional), with networking among European allocators and fund managers

Education Informed by Practice

Observation takes place at institutional platforms affiliated with White Coat Institute, and the curriculum reflects their practice.

White Coat Institute is not an investment adviser and does not make recommendations or solicit investments. Any exposure to investment vehicles occurs through separate legal structures, governed by independent documentation, eligibility requirements, and jurisdictional constraints.

Maintain Clinical Practice

Unlike MBA programs requiring full-time commitment or finance boot camps demanding weeks of leave, the residency accommodates clinical schedules. Most participants maintain 60-100% clinical workload while completing the program through evening sessions, weekend components, and asynchronous access to materials.

Full-Time Clinical Schedule

Physicians maintaining 100% clinical practice participate through:

  • Evening virtual sessions (7-9pm ET, twice monthly) covering fund structures, allocator frameworks, and portfolio strategy
  • Weekend deep dives (one Saturday per month, 3-hour sessions) for live fund operation observations and case analysis
  • Asynchronous access to recorded sessions, materials, and templates for review on your own schedule
  • Optional quarterly in-person half-day intensive (New York or virtual)

Reduced Clinical or Transitioning

Physicians working part-time or actively exploring finance transitions can add:

  • Daytime fund operation observations at affiliated institutional platforms, with flexible scheduling
  • Extended mentorship with fund managers, allocators, and finance professionals
  • Priority access to the optional Zurich or Stockholm intensive (one week, $15,000 additional)

The program adapts to your circumstances rather than forcing you into a rigid schedule incompatible with clinical responsibilities.

Frequently Asked

Who is eligible to apply?

Licensed physicians (MD, DO) in active practice or recently retired. We occasionally accept applications from dentists (DDS, DMD), veterinarians (DVM), and other doctoral-level healthcare professionals on a case-by-case basis.

Non-physicians are not eligible regardless of income, net worth, or professional credentials. This is a physician-specific platform by design.

Do you accept international physicians?

Yes. We work with physicians across U.S., U.K., European Union, Switzerland, and Scandinavian jurisdictions regularly.

International participation adds complexity around tax treatment, wire transfers, currency considerations, and regulatory compliance. Expect additional documentation requirements and longer onboarding timelines.

What does the residency program actually involve?

The Physician Finance Residency runs for six months:

  • Months 1-2: Fund structures, legal frameworks, regulatory compliance, allocator psychology, due diligence processes.
  • Months 3-4: Live deal analysis, portfolio construction, risk management frameworks, investor relations observation.
  • Months 5-6: Capstone project.

Time commitment: 20 hours a month of structured sessions plus self-directed work. This is not passive. Expect to be uncomfortable, challenged, and occasionally frustrated by ambiguity.

How long does the application process take?

Initial application review takes 5-7 business days. If you advance, expect a follow-up questionnaire (48-hour turnaround), background verification (1-2 weeks), a final interview (scheduled within 2 weeks), and decision notification (3-5 business days after the interview).

Total timeline from initial application to decision: 4-6 weeks. We do not expedite for any reason.

Do you offer payment plans or financing?

No. All programs require full payment upfront or at contract signing. We do not offer installment plans, financing arrangements, or deferred payment structures.

What are the confidentiality requirements?

All participants sign NDAs covering program materials, proprietary methodologies, and the substance of teaching discussions. Violations result in immediate removal and potential legal action.

General statements about participation are permissible. Details of program content are not to be shared on social media, physician forums, or with colleagues outside the program.
